Why test the right button?
In many games the right mouse button does as much work as the left. Think of placing blocks in Minecraft, blocking with a shield, aiming down sights or using an ability. Right-click speed is a separate skill, because it usually uses your middle finger, and it’s also a quick way to check the right switch on a mouse.
On this test, left clicks are ignored. The browser’s context menu is blocked inside the click area, so you can click freely.
Typical right-click scores (10 seconds)
| CPS | Level |
|---|---|
| Under 4 | Beginner |
| 4–6 | Average (middle finger) |
| 6–8 | Good |
| 8–11 | Very fast |
| 11+ | Jitter / butterfly level |
Improve right-click speed
- Use the finger that’s fastest for you. Some people get better results by shifting their grip so the index finger moves to the right button.
- Butterfly on the right button. Middle and ring fingers can take turns, the same way you’d butterfly the left button.
- Practise in short sets. The middle finger tires faster than the index finger.
Checking the right switch
Click slowly and deliberately for 10 seconds. The click count should match the number of times you pressed. If you see more clicks than presses, the switch may be double-clicking. Confirm it with the double click test or the mouse button test.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my right click CPS lower than my left?
Most people click the right button with their middle finger, which is usually slower and less practised than the index finger. A 10–25% gap is normal.
