What is drag clicking?
Drag clicking is a technique where you drag your fingertip across the main mouse button. Friction makes your finger skip along the button, and the switch registers a burst of clicks in a single stroke. One good drag can produce more clicks than a second of normal clicking.
That’s why drag clicking scores can be very high, but only on the right mouse, and only in short bursts.
How to drag click
- Angle your finger so the tip touches the front of the button.
- Press lightly and drag your fingertip back towards the palm.
- Let the friction make your finger vibrate against the button. You’ll feel it “stutter”.
- Lift, return to the front, and drag again. Rhythm matters more than force.
Practise in short sets on the 5-second test above. One-second runs are great for testing a single drag.
Drag click benchmarks (5 seconds)
| CPS | What it means |
|---|---|
| Under 15 | Not quite there yet. Check your technique or mouse surface |
| 15–25 | Drag clicking is working |
| 25–40 | Strong drag clicking |
| 40+ | Excellent, with the right mouse and technique |
What makes a mouse good for drag clicking
- A textured or matte button surface that gives your finger grip
- Switches that bounce easily (some switch types are far better than others)
- No built-in debounce delay, or a setting to lower it, because debounce merges rapid bounces into one click
Some players add grip tape to the button for friction. Gaming mice with very fast, low-latency switches are sometimes worse, because their firmware filters out the bounces.
Drag clicking and fair play
Our leaderboard accepts drag clicking. The auto-clicker check looks for machine-perfect timing, and human drags are irregular. Game servers are a different story. Many limit CPS or ban drag clicking outright, so know the rules before you use it in PvP.
Compare it with the other high-CPS techniques: butterfly clicking and jitter clicking.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my drag clicking score low?
Drag clicking depends heavily on the mouse. A button with a smooth or glossy surface won't create enough friction, and some switches don't bounce. Try slightly sweaty fingertips, a different angle, or grip tape on the button.
Is drag clicking bannable?
Many Minecraft servers limit or ban drag clicking because it produces far more clicks than normal clicking. Always check the server's rules.
Can drag clicking damage my mouse?
It puts extra wear on the main button's switch, and some manufacturers don't cover drag-click wear under warranty. Expect the switch to wear out faster.
